After nearly nine years at this special little pub our last day will be 18th January 2026.
It has not been an easy decision and with the heaviest of hearts we would like to thank our amazing staff past and present, including our brilliant manager Eli, our loyal customers, fantastic local suppliers, Adnams, musicians and the villagers of Snape (the regular drinkers, the Meet-Up Mondays crew, the ladies who lunch and the grumpies), just to name a few!
From opening the doors in 2017 to now, including the uncertain years of Covid with takeaways and our ‘Pub 2 Plate’ range to our live music, Open Mic, theme food nights and village events, we have enjoyed every single minute of running The Golden Key and the support we have received has been phenomenal!
Pubs are such an important part of community life and we are deeply saddened to part with The Key. Please give as much support as you can to your small local businesses – we are very much still at the helm of The Plough and Sail in Snape and Regatta Restaurant in Aldeburgh and are looking forward to the year ahead!

The Golden Key is a relaxed cottage-style dining pub dating back to the 1600’s, just tucked away from the main road through the beautiful village of Snape. Alex and Oliver Burnside took over the running of The ‘Key’ in July 2017 and strive to offer their customers a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, exceptional service and traditional ‘pub’ dishes done well. They believe in celebrating local, seasonal produce and playing a central role in the local community.
The Golden Key is packed full of original character, beams, open fires and quirky details which make it a fantastic pub to visit, any time of the year. With three ensuite rooms situated above the premises (one of them being dog friendly), we’re also the perfect place to stay that’s conveniently located to nearby Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh, Orford, Framlingham and Woodbridge.
Alex and Oliver also run Regatta Restaurant in Aldeburgh and The Plough and Sail in Snape, located at Snape Maltings.
